The IdealPark car lift in the restoration of Villa Hilda in Merano

Car Lift IP1-CM MOB 2 XL

Villa Hilda, in a residential neighbourhood of Merano, has been restored to enhance everyday living while preserving its architectural identity and its relationship with the surrounding grounds. The IdealPark IP1-CM MOB 2 XL car lift connects the entrance at ground level to the new underground garage, replacing a conventional access ramp.

The vertical connection reduces the space needed for vehicle access and helps preserve the layout of the grounds. The choice of a car lift forms part of a wider reorganisation of the property: a detached guest annexe, distinguished by its mint-green exterior, takes the place of the former garage building. Parking is relocated underground, with an access solution that complements the restoration of the villa and its outdoor spaces.

Built in the 1930s and extended in 1951 to a design by architect Hermann Delugan, the villa stands within a protected architectural ensemble. DEAR studio’s project renews the residential spaces, introducing new functions while respecting the character of the building.

The restoration reinstates the villa’s original proportions. Lowering the ground level along the south façade reveals the base of the building, while new openings, aligned with the existing ones, bring more light into the ground-floor rooms. Cream-coloured render, pale green larch joinery and metal details give the exterior a character rooted in Merano’s architectural tradition.

The grounds have also been reorganised, with more clearly defined paths, planted beds echoing the façade’s curved lines and changes in level edged with Corten steel. The fountain regains a central role, while porphyry recalls the materials of the local building tradition.

The same attention to design continues inside the garage, conceived as an introduction to the domestic interiors. Exposed concrete walls and ceiling, clusters of light bulbs and wall lighting lead towards an entrance framed by timber panelling. Arriving by car becomes the first stage of the journey into the home.

Inside the residence, historic Tyrolean wood panelling sits alongside exposed concrete surfaces, light-toned walls and contemporary furnishings. A suspended staircase in wood and glass connects the spaces, while shades of green echo the landscape outside. A wellness area with an indoor pool and dedicated guest accommodation complete the villa’s new layout.

At Villa Hilda, the IdealPark car lift supports a clear design choice: moving parking underground while preserving the relationship between the residence, its grounds and the new guest accommodation above ground.

Architectural design: DEAR studio, Lorenzo Scacchetti and Manuel Gschnell.
